Graduated in Electrical Engineering with 110/110. After a period of research as a contactee/scholarship holder at the Polytechnic of Milan, the University of Twente (The Netherlands) and the University of Catania in 1990, she joined the staff of the University of Catania where since 2002 she has been Full Professor of Information Processing Systems. Prof. Carchiolo’s scientific and research activity from 1983 to today has ranged across numerous ICT fields. The main research topics can be framed in the following themes: Applications of formal techniques and design methodologies; Distributed systems; Workflow management and object-oriented techniques; E-learning; Big Data analysis; Complex networks; Natural Language processing; E-health; IoT and intelligent systems for monitoring; Machine Learning.
